Cold Plates

It took me a couple of readings to realize that you weren't supposed to lump everything together; each number represents a smattering of offerings: deviled eggs AND sardines in lettuce cups AND marinated slices of tomato (or at least I hope so). I'll pass on the sliced cold tongue.  Can you even get that anymore (in central Indiana at least)?

I suppose you could serve this as a pre-Thanksgiving snack or as an alternative to all of the rich foods on the Thanksgiving table.  However, almost none of this appeals to me.

I listed this under Appetizers, but another thought occurred to me: is this the kind of dinner that you leave in the fridge for your husband when you have a late night of bridge with the ladies? "Honey, I left you some sliced tongue for dinner. Enjoy!"
